As always the news provides us with reason to pause and think about the mental health of our young people. Two cases with issues that are at the heart of mental health concern for children and young people are especially important. The recent school shootings in Ohio and locally the court hearing for the Mitchell Wilson bullying case reminds us that mental health problems in children and youth are complex and typically defy superficial understanding and easy solutions. Over the last few months we have been bombarded by stories and images relating to natural and man-made disasters from across the world. Most recently the immediate impact and aftermath of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan has resulted in media coverage that is at the same time dramatic and horrific. Right now the situation in Libya juxtaposed with the stories from Japan are challenging for many of us in terms of our comprehension. Read more »
Dr. Rod Evans joined Kinark Child and Family Services as the
Director of Clinical Services in September, 2010.
Previously, Dr. Evans spent nearly 20 years working in the
child and youth psychiatry field at the IWK Children’s Hospital (Dalhousie
University) in Nova Scotia. From 2004 until joining Kinark, Dr. Evans was the
Director of the Child and Youth Mental Health Program at the McMaster
Children’s Hospital in Hamilton.
