Peter Moore has dedicated his life to helping Ontario’s youth and furthering the cause of children’s mental health.
He first ventured into the social work world more than 35 years as a child and youth worker at the Children’s Aid Society in Vancouver.
In 1974, Peter returned to his native Ontario as a direct service worker at Browndale before becoming executive director of Barrie’s Boscoe Home for Boys in 1982.
In 1985, Peter accepted the position of director of the Peterborough program at Kinark Child and Family Services, which had previously been known as Browndale and Warrendale.
After joining Kinark, Peter made a steady climb up the management ladder until he was named executive director in 2000.
Under Peter’s leadership, Kinark has grown from a budget of $17 million to $62 million. As well, Peter oversaw the addition of the Central East Autism Program and the Syl Apps Youth Centre to the Kinark family.
The largest children’s mental health agency in the province, Kinark provides treatment programs, autism and youth justice services in areas across southern Ontario, including Durham, Halton, Northumberland, Peterborough, Simcoe and York. Kinark currently relies on nearly 800 employees and 300 volunteers to deliver mental health services to children and their families.
Peter is a member of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers and a member of the advisory committee for the Ontario Centre of Excellence for Children’s Mental Health.
Peter recently finished his term as a board member on Children’s Mental Health Ontario and currently sits on the board of the Child Welfare League of Canada and on the advisory committee for the Provincial Centre of Excellence for Child and Youth Mental Health. Previously, he has served as a board member on the Social Planning Council in his home community of Peterborough.
Hello Peter,
I am sorry that I have not taken the time to look at this site before. I think that this is a wonderful site and it serves a great purpose for the youth and their families all across Canada. There needs to be more sites like this for families to turn to for help. Life today is tuff enough and government agencies do not provide outlets for families to go to unless it is between 9 to 5.
Kinark Child and Family Services is very fortunate to have someone of your stature working for children and families in Ontario. It is unfortunate that the rest of Canada cant have someone like you in their employ.
I am proud to have been fortunate to have worked with you at Alma House (Childrens Aid Society) in Vancouver. Your dedication to Children and their families is making Ontario (and Canada) a better place for the future of this country. The youth of today are the leaders of tomorrow for Canada. Keep up the great work and the dedication that you have shown.
I understand your passion to help Children and their Families and hopefully that passion will spread across this great country of Canada. Thanks to you and the Kinark Group for your undying efforts in providing the services that families need to continue to grow stronger in the developemnt of our youth.
Remember, children need help to develope so that families will be stronger and communities will be stronger. Thanks again for your relentless efforts in Children and Families Support.
